Employment Opportunities - Where to Start?

My wife just moved up from FL, kids are gone, time to get back in the work place ... Any good starting places for her to find her niche? She's doing the Monster and CB stuff, but she needs to get an idea on direction and some networking started ... My suggestions are to much from the Mars side of the equation, she needs some 'professional' guidance ...

Start with what does she want to do? What did she do before the kids came along?

Finance background, corporate stint early on, various counseling gigs, EMT last time we lived in NC, office manager for a non-profit developing affordable until she moved up here ... Looking for some general insight into the local market and how best to present her competencies and skills ...

Best way to network is through the after hours events held by the various chambers of commerce. You don't have to be a member to attend. Also establish a profile on Linked In. This way she can find contacts her contacts may know.

This area is overflowing with recruiters, you should check them out. Matrix, TekSysterms, Adecco, we've got them all here. Let them do the networking for you.

Yes, this is true. Contractors supply many companies with employees in RTP. You'll have to be very good to be turned over to full-time permanent though as there is usually a pay off negotiation if the employer wants to convert you to a non-contract employee.

There is a good website that lists off all the companies in RTP. Mostly tech companies but it is still a great way to dig into large companies that might be hiring.

Linkedin is pretty good as well, networking will get you a job faster than just sending in cold resumes.
