Loving these comments....esp since my now ex BF has been cheating, and I found out that this is what he was saying to the other woman. Of course, NOW he is begging me to take him back...and I'm the only one he was ever IN love with. Yeah, right. Pffffft!

I told him No way in H___ would I ever go back with him and for him to date others as that's the best way to get over someone ... but of course, NOW he has no DESIRE to go out with anyone else. WTF???

By the way, this "idiot" is 61 years old, goes to church regularly and is 'chaplain' in our 'Friends of the Forgotten' group. I asked him, "Why do you even bother going to church, if you don't want to bother living life the right way?"

I agree that's the more common cause of hearing that line but it can also be true particularly if no spark ever existed or was intended or wanted. I've hung out with a number of women I met as friends through friends or just met in public. These were people whose company I enjoyed and wished to continue.

I'm very upfront about my intentions and some good friendships resulted. I'll admit that in many cases my honesty was returned with something else. One woman later confessed; "I intended to wear you down". When that failed she got pissed.
I did develop a deep affection "for my friend" but that doesn't always lead to attraction or love. Yesterday's news said one in 6 people using eharmony or Match.com is over 55. I doubt one in 10 is looking for love but you won't hear that upfront.
