I can see some strong opinions coming from some people. Please refrain from flaming, but if something really needs to be addressed, say it, but keep the chit chat to a minimum.
Sierra Automotive In Carson off of 395 across from the old gotshocks is really the best in the area for all of your vehicle needs. The owner Steve will do whatever it takes to make his customers happy. For the fancy stuff I would say that Gilson's is amazing.
Spencer and family at the Buggie Barn are so great. My boyfriend takes his vw bus there and is always pleased. They even work on my Subaru, which is awesome because I prefer not to go to the dealership.

i usually only trust myself with my automotive needs. or a friend.
there are a few times i go to a shop, wheel alignments, or TSB work. in these cases i go into the garage bay with my car. allot of the shops will tell you that there is "insurance reasons" why you cant, and sure there are some liabilities, but for the most part thats bull**** cause they dont want an annoying customer getting in their way.
long story short. never trust a "mechanic" that doesnt have dirt under his nails. and i personally will never trust a shop that wont allow me in the bay with my car. (dealerships excluded) dealerships really stress icar, and ansi certs.
also, cover your ass,
if you are going for a wheel balance, take cellphone pictures of your rims. if they are scratched, bring it up with management, if that is unhelpfull, get the name of that manager, and the store # and call corporate(politely).
you will not believe how helpful a district manager can be when a general manager isnt.
Depends on what your looking for and mostly what kind of vehicle you own. I am a master tech and have worked on a wide variety of vehicles. Some vehicles really need the dealer for their computer a big one is volvo vw/porsche bmw sabb and benz. Most others can be worked on at general shops. Many people think there is a magic computer behind a curtain that tell the tech the problem in 30 seconds and charge the customer for 1 hour of diag. Its not that simple it takes time to diag problems and mechanics get paid for their time we don't expect you to work for free so dont expect the same from us. A "FREE" check out is NEVER a "FREE" check out auto repairs cost money thats the bottom line a shop that says they will work for free is gonna get their money some how.
Though I now trust only a few friends, one of whom used to work in the field of automotive mechanics, I have used some trustworthy mechanics in Moundhouse. There are two good reasons to take your car or truck to Moundhouse. First, the rent or mortgage out there is lower than you will find anywhere in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, or the Carson Valley. They can pass that savings to the customer. Second, there are attractive options for entertainment while waiting for quick repairs. One can walk to these entertainment purveyors in five minutes.
