You would think that with Richmond being so close to the ocean we would have way more seafood restaurants to choose from

Pescados Seafood is s'posed to rock!

I hear that Pescado's Seafood (locations in Midlothian and in Oregon Hill) is supposed to have great Carribbean style seafood! I'll let you all know after we go there next weekend.

Edo's Squid. The Rock Fish is amazing, and all of the seafood pasta dishes are out of this world.

Though I've yet to try it myself, I've heard great things about Croaker Spot.

Behind Buffalo Wild Wings in the bottom there's a relatively new place call the Fishbowl. Service and food (mostly seafood) is awesome, though a bit pricey and they've got a good beer selection. I think during football games their appetizers are all half price as well.

Like no one knows they're there because it's only been there for 6 months and you can't see it from Cary so unless you happen to drive down w/e street that is you'd never know it was there. Seems the last few places that were there went under for the that same reason yet had great food.

What type of seafood are you interested in? I mean, there is the exotic stuff - such as lobster or stone crab, etc. but there are always basics too, depending on the locality.

The local stuff - I am thinking steamed crabs, spot, rockfish, oysters, etc - that come out of the Bay are great and plentiful around here.

So if you want good basic seafood like when you go to a beach area nearby you need to think about the restaurants that have a tie to those areas.

Arnest is one of them, in King William off Mechanicsville Tpke. Also most local places - e.g. Shackelfords in the west end, Awful Arthurs and others have great basic seafood.

Hardshell is phenomenal, but sometimes you just want a lb of spiced steamed shrimp in old bay.
