I think the local dialect is hysterical. I mostly hear it on the radio, most DJ's and advertisements instead of Raah-chester or Roh-chester I hear Rod-chester.

This link doesn't pick up on the Rod but has a few others like CHIY-liy and Mun-ro.

The Rahdchesteh accent is fargin' ugly. The word "ham" has at least two syllables, but it sounds nothing like a southern pronunciation (like Paula Dean).

We can't pronounce proper nouns to save our lives. Seriously...Char-LOTTE? (The other day, I was talking to a guy in Charlotte, NC and a guy in the suburb of Charlotte outside Rochester and confused the bejeebus out of myself trying to keep the pronunciations straight.)

I wasn't sure where I was when I first moved up there. Chai Lie?? Then I really cracked up when I found out the spelling of where I lived. I thought it was spelled Shar Lot.

Rochester is one of the only places I've heard soda referred to as pop.

It is pronounced 'chiy-lie' and it is 'char-LOTTE'.

It seems to me most people can't pick up on the Rochester accent, only about 20% of people do. There's very few things that are actually pronounced with an accent.

If it were normal words there would be a point to this thread. When your talking about names, the pronunciation can vary wildly.
