Whats the best tourist spot on the Erie Canal near Monroe County?

We stopped and checked out the lock at Macedon Canal Park and found it fascinating. The canal is still new to us having just moved here, love the history and the engineering marvel that it is.

What other local-ish points along the canal are good for the touristy thing?

Schoen Place in Pittsford is good. Feed the ducks on the canal, do some shopping and eat well. The canal towpath lets you walk or bike for miles if you're so inclined, and you pass a few locks.

+1 what Brian said. Also check out Brockport Spenerport and Fairport. Each town centers on the canal crossing. You could also rent a boat and cruise the canal stopping along the way.

Fairport would be a good choice, check out the canal days festival link.

Thanks guys, I've added these to my list.. Will check them out for sure nearer to spring.

Have some family in town, we jumped down to Macedon again yesterday so they could have a quick look see.

they lasted about 2 minutes, little chilly for them with the wind and snow..

Schoen Place is nice, small but just really nice. There are some areas around Schoen place like the town its self to navigate through too. Enjoy!

I agree with Fairport. Nice walk along the canal, and an interesting town to explore.

Spencerport is a great place to explore. It still has that small town charm that's been lost from most places. Enjoy the sites!
