The Royal Exchange at Sacramento and Front is a great Irish Sports Bar.

Sports Bar – San Francisco | Irish Bar – San Francisco | Sports Bar SF asdfa

Harrington's, about three doors down from them is almost as good a place.

+1 for the Toronado.
On the other hand; If you can catch Drakes Brewery in San Leandro when they are serving; then it's a blast.

If you're around Golden Gate Park / Inner Sunset then Blackthorn and Fireside are nice little neighborhood bars worth checking out. There's also the recently opened Social Kitchen & Brewery which serves up its own unique brews. And for the full Mission Hipster/SF Dive bar experience there's always the Zeitgeist.

you got to hit Zeitgeist and Lucky 13. Classic SF bars. All of the above are great beer spots, but none (other than Toronado) come close to Zeitgeist and Lucky 13.

City Beer in SF, Haus Staudt in Redwood City, Rose and Crown in Palo Alto, the Artisan Wine Depot and of course MoreBeer (homebrew supplies) both in Mountain View.

Rogue Ales Public House

Surprised so many people have forgotten to mention Rogue Ales Public House on Union St. Huge selection of beers and a big pub menu too!

+1 for Rogue. They have good food (not great, but definitely edible) and a very large selection of beer from both their own brewery and their subsidiaries (Eugene City, Issaquah, etc...). They also tend to have several other craft brews around. Last time they had a couple from Victory and Ninkasi. All-in-all, I think they had ~30 beers on tap. A good place with nice people working there.

I cannot say enough nice things about my favorite beer spot .... Beer Revolution. They have a good selection, great staff, and fair prices. I live in the East Bay, so I tend to stay on this side of the bridge (or tunnel). I love how you can try a beer, and then buy a couple bottles to take home with you if you like it.
