Garcia's is the best mexican food in this town by far, for the prices and for the food!!

Taco C is the best midnight Mexican, the Fajita joint on Hopkins is the best Fajitas, and Garcia's is the best family Mexican (and cheapest, too).

Herbert's has the best EVERYTHING on Mondays...

Tuesday is for fast food anywhere, one is as good as another.

M'Citas` is best for Wed eve. ( We JUST had Herbert's Monday )

Thus is ice cream only day ( needed after two Mex meals within 72 hr..

Fri. is Garcia's day... Family dining pleasures on Fri eve.

Sat we are ALL headed to El Pato because we all need at least ONE day
away from San Marcos per week for general sanity sake.

Sunday is El Chico TV Dinner day here in San Marcos. Sunday drivers
here are like BAD NEWS!!! Stay in doors on Sundays after church!

El Charro is the bomb for authentic Mexican food.
Whoever said Taco Cabana doesn't know what Mexican food is . I suggest they try a real Mexican joint.

From what I remember in 2003, Garcias was by far the best MExican food in San Marcos. Herberts was a second, and mamacitas does suck. I am living in Laredo right now , so I am not far from real thing (MEXICO), but Garcia's is the only place i'll visit when in town for mexican food. that and taco cabana, lol

If you wonder what SM is all about, this thread, it's lifespan and the unbelievable number of views should answer that question. And what have we established - everyone has different tastes. If you drink and smoke/chew tobacco you can't taste anything anyhow so run for the border. If you smoke da kind, everything tastes good but you'll feel most comfortable at Herbert's with the red-eyed special. The other places are a matter of personal preference. Everyone's taste buds are a little different so opinions vary. One thing is for sure, if Officer Stephens had said "it's only a dog, make tacos out of him", he wouldn't have been reprimanded and counseled, he would have been drawn and quartered damn quick. We have priorities here in River City, and this thread proves it.

You are right, this thread exposes the the truth about San Marcos. We only care about where to eat. When it comes to mexican food I'd rate em;
1. Herbert's (tex-mex) is still the king
2. Garcia's (trad-mex) is damn good
3. El Charro (both?) also very good
You really couldn't go wrong at any of these places. As stated above, tastes vary so try them all and pick your fave.

I go to Herberts for mexican food. Don't need to go nowhere else. Never have. Never will. Ya'll go somewhere else cause it's gotten too damned crowded. Who are you, where you from, whatcha doing here?
