Ok, been awhile since I last visited (I couldn't find the forums link and thought they'd been removed ), but I do still believe this is something that should happen and would benefit all involved.

The city would be loosing money. I think the figure in increased revenue per year was around 24,000 dollars. That isn't jack for the amount of revenue needed to pay overtime and added officers it would take to patrol that extra 2 hours for a year. So, the property tax payers would have to make up the difference. Who are the property tax payers? Not the students who are the ones that want the 2am drinking limit. As a tax payer, I would rather see my money go towards more beneficial things such as roads, city services, better parks for the children of San Marcos, etc. I don't want my tax money to pay for the ability of college kids to drink for 2 more hours. That, in my opinion, would be a complete waste of MY tax money.
Thank-you greatly for your input, lxman93, it helps to know the other side of the story.

Respectfully, though, you say "Is the bar operating schedule the primary topic of concern in San Marcos?".

My retort to that would be, "Is the only criteria for handling community issues judged by the tax revenue it generates?"

If they are concerned that they would lose money by the extra police force needed, don't they realize that from midnight-2am that they would need fewer roaming (off the square) patrols? All the drinkers would all be in one concentrated area....would it be easier to patrol a 10 sq mile area or a 1 sq mile area?!?

bar effin nazi's

 that's a bunch of crap about them having to get extra patrols after 2am - where the hell are the ones that are already supposed to be there? does the shift actually change and lessen the amount of cops on the street at 12am?

and yea, that's a good point about people getting crunkt and then driving to austin or SA at like 11:45pm and then getting sloshed and driving back....

TOO EARLY

DRINKING UNTIL 2AM DOES MEAN MORE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD BEING DRUNK. IT DOES NEGATE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE DRINK WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT, AND DRIVE WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT; SO THE NUMBERS FOR BOTH HOUSE PARTIES AND BARS WOULD BE SIMILAR. WHETHER YOU ARE AT A HOUSE PARTY OR AT THE BAR, YOU WILL HAVE TO LEAVE AT SOME POINT, POSSIBLY INTOXICATED. THATS THE COPS JURISDICTION NOT ANYONE ELSE'S TO DECIDE. SAN MARCOS IS NOT THE TOWN IT NEEDS TO BE UNLESS THERE IS A COMPROMISE TO HOUSE PARTIES AND BARS BEING OPEN UNTIL 2AM. MOST OF THE INCOME WILL LEAVE BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO STAY SOMEWHERE THEY CANNOT RECREATE WITHOUT FEAR OF UNDUE PUNISHMENT.

PLEASE REPLY IF YOU FEEL SIMILAR

don't deny what you are san marcos! We would be wimberly if it wasn't for the university and it's students. Lets give them more time. they want it and they live here! San Marcos is a college town with future college grads that plan on leaving here immeadiatly because "the city of san marcos" is so remotely detached from it's own identity and oppertunities.

true true true

San Marcos detached from identity: Students leave: Texas State a Factory: More Drunks on Road: Zoning Restrictions Keep Life Away from the Living: Idiot Population Along Craddock Rd: Free Ride Service (805-SWAT, You Golden Shirted Angels and Your Breath Mints) Poorly Supported: Two Extra Patrol Hours Doesn't Mean Cops Actually Patrol (I was hit by a car while riding my bike in the crosswalk @ LBJ and Hopkins, a cop watched it happen, watched the guy drive away, and then asked me if I wanted to file charges. Good response to crime!): Bicycling is dangerous in San Marcos (there are 2, yes II, yes TWO--correct me if I'm wrong--bike lanes in this town. Do you know where they are?): Driving is Encouraged: Most People Don't Get Busted for Drunk Driving: Ever: Maybe In a Lifetime...

San Marcos has no goals to build a "community". The most recent road proposal was pretty good evidence. Building roads doesn't ease congestion, it creates more traffic, more commercial real estate or residential frontage and access, and more tax revenue. You know, how will the Body Farm help the typical San Marcos resident? Surely ****loads. How does the rapid construction of cheap, ugly, expansive housing projects away from goods and services help people? What about all the new franchises? This place is out for hegemony, which, coincidentally, helps the school a lot. And enrollment is up. And the U is expanding, taking more students, and raising tuition. How does that help the people who already live here and can't afford to send their kids to school?

With all these problems, why can't we drink a little more? We're already forbidden to legally see titty in this goddamned town.
