Excuse me guest but "Shut Up and Skate" is a copyrighted phrase. You owe someone in Cali some money.

Good News...

I talked to Rodney last night before the P & R
meeting. Seems, in a moment of clarity, he figured out
a location for the skate park. Behind the library, on
Hopkins, there is a huge dog park. Adjacent to that
is a large lot that is located under some high tension
power lines. This area has no plans for it, 'cept
mabe a parking lot. He thought that this would be an
ideal location. After I check it out I agree 100%.
There is a ditch that runs along Bugg lane and the
lot, that is perfect for drainage. It's centrally
located, and among other sports complexes ( baseball
and softball ), and there are some huge pecan trees.

Now.......Where do we go from here.

1. We need as much input on this project as possible.
If anyone on this email list knows of someone who can
be added to it, please, please, send me there email.
Or give them my email address. Brett, is there any
one on the team love email list we can add to this
one?

2. Next month, at the Parks and Rec's. meeting the
park will be on the agenda. September 20th
We will try and have a meeting at my house the monday
before, I hope now that we know that the park will be
discussed, we can get a decent turn out. Mr. Engel,
please tell Louis to spread the word. And you to
Santa Cruzer, tell everyone you know at school what is
going on.

3. Raise money..

Anyone who wants to help, get info, donate time/money, anything.....let me know...

9.15.04

The meeting last night was a huge success. The P&R board was really enthusiastic about the enitre project. They voted 12-0 to send the request on to the city council, and also amended it to form a committee to help with the design, planning process.

I'ld like to thank Jaime and Yon from the Skatepark of Austin for showing up. Now here's two Austinites who own their own skatepark, yet they came to support us. That was really cool.

There was quite a few grooms there, who got up and talked about what they wanted, and even more parents, some of whom didn't even have kids that skated, who got up and stated the obvious needs for a skatepark.

The P&R Board had lots of questions for us. I was really suprised to hear them really wondering about gettting more money and doing two phases at once.
We or I had proposed a three phase plan.

I. Street Course
A. 70% street Course
B. 30% FLOW/Vert area

II. Flow Area
A. 70% FLOW/Vert Area
B. 30% Street

III. FULL PIPE

When I explained the economical benifits of a world class skatepark, their ears really purked up. In fact one board member wondered why we didn't do two phases at once, even though it would be more expensive, he stated that don't you get more bang for your buck the more you buy at once.

We're going to form an action committee. I think , or I should say right now the meeting will be at my house on Sunday the 17th at 5:00 PM.

If any one knows how to get intouch with Airspeed please let me know. I'm gonna C&P this over to the SPOSMOT thread on the skarks and hoping that someone over there can help out.

Thanks to everyone that showed up and if you didn't make it, or if you went to C-fan and didn't come to the meeting, you won't be allowed to skate our park..... icon_lol.gif

Was a good meeting. The P&R board moved the idea of building a park forward. Some of them seemed to have done their home work and a few of the others caught on rather quickly. They grasped the concept that beyond getting the kids off the streets, if done right, a skatepark could be a economic development tool (tourism). I think a pipe is in our future, can anyone say Ammo Jr.. They also are forming a committee to help make sure we do everything right. Apparently A-2 and myself were drafted for the committee. A-2 was good at the meeting, we should have taken notes with us. One of the board members even offered to help us with fund raising.
