Bush's New Spin
I can't believe he'd have the gall after his incredibly over-zelous sale of war to the American people and international community to finally turn around and blame the state of the economy on the media.
Bush recently had his 9th press conference since he has been in office, aside from his war-mongering speeches, State of th Union, and scheduled reporting. I think he is the first president to hold less than 30 press conferences by this stage of their presidency. His father had already had nearly 60.
Anyway, he asserted that the economy is in bad shape, and the confidence of the American people has been "severly comprimised" by the media's "marching off to war hype." Can you belive this. After all of the incredible marching off to war hype he did on his own, his addministration's huge sales campaign for the war, and...us actually marching off to war with the implied fear that we'd be doing battle with a country capable of initiating biological attacks and nuclear attacks, he has the balls to say that "if the media had'nt continually beat their marching-off to war drum, and affected the American people's confidence we'd be in better shape..." Thud. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he decide to declare war on a soverign nation all by his little self despite the largest international anti-war sentiments in history to date? Wasn't it Bush and his administration that advertised a regular fear campaign at home to drive up support for the war, also lowering the level of consumer confidence and spending? Isn't this the guy who's primary buddies incorporate an enormous shareholder's stake in the major governing media giants?
I say we take him at his word. If the friggin media is responsible, then let's see him squelch their "media-hyping" power by passing a constitutional ammendment that bars the media from "hyping" anything. Yeah, that's it.
I think I'm about to toss my cereal bowl at the wall.
