For those of us who live in the WAY north of CA, the Sac zoo is awesome. Maybe not on par with the SF one, but then again, you don't have all of the SF expense, distance, and hassle and safety...

Butte Meadows

Plenty of snow around Butte Meadows (20 miles east of Chico). Speaking of which, there is a charity event there February 19. It is the Caring Veterans run. (Caringveterans.org) It was fantastic...

Lake Almanor

If you haven't been to Lake Almanor you need to put it on your "to do" list. Excellent fishing, boating, beautiful views of Mt. Lassen, etc. It's located 70 miles east of Chico.

Redding has a ton of cool options if you like the...

Redding has a ton of cool options if you like the outdoors. Whiskeytown Lake is nearby and is a hidden gem. Not many people, lots of fishing and boating (sailing too). Great place for families.

manzanita lake

Went to Manzanita this week. Some big browns spawning, but fishing was tough. Some success on wooly buggers.
