Octoberfest at the Wineries

For those of you that don't know, St. Louis has a number of fantastic wineries that all have live music every Saturday during the month of October. Take Hwy 64 into St. Charles County from St. Louis County (west on 64 from Chesterfield) and get off at Hwy 94 south. In 15 minutes you'll start to see the winery signs. Mt. Pleasant in Augusta, Balducci just outside of Augusta... you can actually take Hwy 94 to Herman, our own version of Germany in mid-Missouri!! (about an hour or so from St. Louis). Don't drink and drive though. The Hwy Patrol on Hwy 94 actually does a blood test on the spot if someone refuses a breathalyzer. No kidding.

I miss the wineries of Augusta and Hermann...kind of hard to grow grapes in the mountains!

Always a great time down Hwy 94. Great views in the fall.

I would also suggest the Augusta Brewery as one of your stops when doing your tour down the Weinstrasse.

Crown Valley Winery is pretty good...almost got my head taken off by a ceiling fan there this summer...but don't let that stop you!

Have to chime in and recommend a visit to Tin Mill brewery when you're out for Oktoberfest. It's more appropriate to drink steins of beer considering Germany's more renowned for beer than anything. Tin Mill isn't as much of a destination as some of the large wineries, but is definitely worth a stop.
