I'm using an Acer Aspire 1 (10"), and for the money (little more than double) the keyboard size, screen, and capability are well worth the additional cost. I can use it for normal applications, with Office 2007 on it, even access Outlook at work from home, sitting outside on the deck with the wireless network. I guess if you are only checking facebook and e-mail these would be OK.
Just my opinion here, but just get a laptop. Or as with me, you will get a netbook, think its great, then very quickly realize that you wanna do more with it than it limitations will allow.
Doesnt have to be a killer machine, and they are not really that much bulkier.
netbooks have (or had) thier place, but the Ipod touch and Pad are quickly taking this away.

The ipad is good. But there is no flash support. Just see how many web sites wont work with it.
Look at an archos tablet with Android 10.1" does everything I ipad can do and has flash support.
