I am also glad you are safe but I wanted to comment. All my vehicles are 4 wheel drive except my wife's commuter car, for just such a circumstance.
Roads are just a suggestion. I can drive anywhere except oceans and lakes. And I would not hesitate if being pushed by fire to go through fences or through yards to get to safety.

This isn't a real picture, but it shows the size of the tri-county fire in far NW houston. My parents live on the lake in the bottom near right. It has been a nail biting 10 days.
Scale is 1" ~ 1 mile

Not really an option in Steiner Ranch FYI, but it is always good to be prepared I guess.

There is another fire today north of Bastrop that has grown to 600 acres.

I saw a news alert, seems that little bit of rain did just that, very little.
