It pulled three cars which had space for 90 passengers. Its not a accident that the design of the locomotive looks like a cross between the legendary TEE train and the Porsche 356. This locomotive was powered by a VW industrial engine and was the prototype of the VW-Porsche trains.

Quote:
The mid-50s there were two so-called trackless trains on a VW beetle chassis. They were called "The B?ckeburg" and "Old Fritz."
The trains belonged to a Mr. Franke from Berlin. These trains operated on the North Sea beach resort of Norderney. This train is now one of the Porsche Museum in Hamburg,

Henry Escher then bought these two trains and had the idea of such trains on the Federal Garden Show in Dortmund use 1959th But that's not
enough, there were 3 more "trackless trains Porsche" ordered and made in the Sollinger H?tte. At the same time also came the idea of a
rail track mitzubauen matter which was intended for the federal garden show in Dortmund. (Today Westfalenpark)
The beetles then form the trackless trains were still not satisfactory. It was looking for a solution like the one form of such a trackless trains could still improve. As the engine they decided on the Porsche industrial engine with 46 hp, which was air-cooled power had something more than the Beetle engine.
Nahe was then that can also be something like styling of the Porsche car (356) took over. This led to the final shape. These 5 trackless trains operated between 1960 Westphalia Hall and the Garden Festival site (Buschm?hle)
These 3 trackless trains Porsche were the only ones of this type were built in 1960 for about 6 blocks from Porsche-like K?ssbohrer-Dortmund.

That first picture looks like it floats on air and came from The Fifth Element.
I like it and I want one for long distance trips.

If you just look at the top 2 photos I think it's looks like a boat. Pull the engine, replace with two marine batteries and hook on an electric trolling motor. Buy a handful and open the 1000 islands water taxi service.

I can see it but they would need a retractable bubble top. People don't want to be cooped up in a little cabin when they're in the 1000 Islands.

Good point. I cry too because that looks like the most magical place to live I've seen. Grab a floatplane in Boston or NYC and land at your dock.
