Beware of sites like hotel.com. A hotel/motel normally lets you cancel on the day of the reservation. But if you book through these sites, you must give 24 hour notice or you are charged.

I attempted to use Hotel.com last year on a trip through Flagstaff, Az. They quoted numerous rooms at ~$79 a night, but even with the phone quote in hand, I was quoted in excess of ~$225 a night.

I was so furious that I had to waste my time but when I called their site, I never was able to speak to a live person. I left two messages, but never received a call back.
