Trip to Italy

I would love to take a trip to Italy. i only speak english and i'm wondering if any of you have gone on a trip to italy, or even somewhere overseas like Germany, and found that it isnt all that hard to get around if you just speak english. Or maybe i would be better off with a tour of some kind?

Most Europeans speak English quite well.
Especially if you are doing the typical tourist thing.
You'll be fine, but you'll have a better time if you make an effort to learn a few basic words and phrases in the language of your destination(s).
