Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Margaret Mitchell House Museum is currently under the management of the Atlanta History Center. Built in 1899, the structure was initially a fashionable single-family residence for Cornelius J. Sheehan. In 1919, it was converted to an apartment building and six years later, Gone with the Wind author Margaret Mitchell moved in with her spouse, John Marsh, to the building?s Apartment #1.

Besides exhibitions that pay tribute to the life and works of one of America?s most famous authors, the Margaret Mitchell House Museum also pursues a mission for enriching literature by holding various regular programs featuring award-winning writers. There are also creative writing classes held annually at the site for both young and adult students.
