The Smithgall Woods Conservation Area is a state park as well as a recreation and conservation area in Helen, Georgia. It is also known simply as the Smithgall Woods State Park.

Composed of 5564 acres, the Smithgall Woods Conservation Area is also the newest unit in the Georgia state parks system. It features the Smithgall woods, which is noted as one of the state?s early environmental disasters. The area that is now the park has once been damaged largely by hydraulic mining and lumber companies that came after the forests. It gradually recovered through conscious efforts of rescuing what is left of the once rich natural area.

Named after Charles Smithgall who played a big part in restoring the area, the Smithgall Woods Conservation Area now offers a wide array of recreational opportunities to the public.
