The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, shortly called as just Southern Museum, offers visitors a different point of view on the tactical and economic use of railroads during and after the Civil War. The museum houses General locomotive which is famous during the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862.

There are various permanent exhibits regarding the civil war and locomotive history. In the Great Locomotive Chase exhibit, visitors follow the footsteps of Confederate Conductor William Fuller as he pursues ?Andrews? Raiders? through the mountains. In Railroads exhibit, it illustrates how railroads were significant during the civil war because of the transportation of medical care, food and supplies. The Glover Machine Works exhibit features a restored belt-driven locomotive assembly line that provides the visitors a glance at an original locomotive equipment used during the Civil War.

The museum also houses the Jolley Education Center which provides educational programs and tours for children and students. There are many programs available for students depending on different stages of learning. School programs for kids in their pre-school and grade school are very popular.
