The Stephen Vincent Benet House is best known for being the home of the Pulitzer Prize winner poet and writer Stephen Vincent Benet, but there is much more to this historic landmark than that. It was originally built in 1829 in Georgian style architecture and has been used for various purposes from its construction.

The Stephen Vincent Benet House is also known as the Commandant’s House and the President’s Home, depending on the time. It was originally the Commandant’s House, being the official residence of the Augusta Arsenal’s Commandant at one point. Today, it is also known as the President’s Home, being the residence of the former Augusta College, now Augusta State University’s president.

Today, Stephen Vincent Benet House is already a part of the National Historic Register.
