The Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is a completion of nearly 20 years of hard work, love, commitment and dedication by a core group of volunteers along with the generosity of corporations, charitable foundations and caring individuals in the community. Having the museum operating successfully with only a limited staff and resources it shares a story about sheer perseverance, creativity, determination and a lot of tough love from a very few.
Rising from the renovated and expanded shell of an old incinerator next to a city landfill near downtown Honolulu, the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is now a center of programs and activity for children across the Hawaiian Islands. The city landfill next to the current center has been transformed into a gem of Waterfront Park.
The Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is nestled amount spreading shade trees and fanning palms and an inviting oasis for families right in the middle of a busy urban Pacific center. The center has a three storey building having 38,000 square feet of state-of-the art and interactive exhibits divided among four major themed galleries. The center is Hawaii?s rainbow connection to the world and is a legacy of love for the children and families of Hawaii.
