Compared to other states, Christianity arrived relatively late in the islands of Hawaii, having arrived there only at the start of the 19th century. However, the r=faith was quickly adapted and embraced by the local populace, which also led to the construction of numerous churches around the islands.

One such notable church in Hawaii is the Kawaiaha?o Church in downtown Honolulu. The church was constructed through the efforts of Queen Ka?ahumanu, wife of the then reigning king Kamehameha I. Referred to by the locals as ?The Westminster Abbey of Hawaii?, the church served as the official prayer grounds of the entire Hawaiian Royal Family.

Today, the church is still used as a place of worship for many parishioners here. Kawaiaha?o is also notable for being one of the few churches that still use the Hawaiian language for hearing mass.
