Standing at 208 feet and covering an area of about 200,000 square feet, the Idaho State Capitol is one of the biggest in the nation. From base to dome, this Renaissance Revival edifice is almost identical to the capitol in Washington, DC had it not been for few architectural alterations.

Complete in 1912, the Idaho State Capitol used several materials for its construction. Red, gray, green, and black marbles from various sources were used. Sitting on top of its gigantic dome is a five-foot bronze sculpture of an eagle. The interior halls is notable for using a material called ?scagliola?, a granite, marble and gypsum mixture treated to look like marble. Perhaps another notable feature of this capitol is the underground tunnel used to connect the capitol to other major government buildings. The Idaho State Capitol currently houses the offices of the Governor and State Legislature.
