The Idaho State Historical Museum is Idaho’s official state museum. It is currently under the Idaho State Historical Society, a non-profit group that aims to preserve, chronicle and promote Idaho’s cultural heritage. The museum serves as the official repository and exhibit of all artifacts pertaining to Idaho’s history.
The Idaho State Historical Museum is based in the ISHS headquarters at Boise, Idaho. It houses a staggering collection of 250,000 artifacts, artworks, documents, and pieces of objects related to Idaho’s agricultural, military, cultural and natural history. The museum is notable for being one of the first American western institutions to be accredited by the American Association of Museums, or AAM. The museum is open for tours, lectures and interactive exhibits. The museum gets over 30,000 visitors a year.
