Lemhi County occupies a special place in US History for being the first site that explorers Lewis & Clark passed through in their legendary quest. Then, they were the very first whites that natives in Lemhi Valley had ever encountered. Today, much of the county?s history is preserved in the Lemhi County Historical Museum. There are five primary exhibits in the museum. The Lemhi Shoshoni Artefact Exhibit features the world?s largest collection of artefacts belonging to the aforementioned tribe such as peace pipes and headdresses. The Ranching Artefact Exhibit, on the other hand, features a wide selection of Old West items, which ranges everything from timber to ranching. The museum?s other exhibits include the Mining Artefact Exhibit, the Chinese Artefact Exhibit, and last but not the least, the Ray Edwards Asian Collection. A recent addition to the museum?s displays would be the Elmer Keith exhibit, which educates the public about the author-cum-hunter?s life and showcases personal artefacts like his pistol, footwear, and five-gallon hat.

Also available at the museum is a gift shop and a photo service center.
