Built in 1886 by William J. McConnell, a Governor of Idaho and one of the state?s top merchants, the McConnell Mansion is now a private museum managed by the Latah County Historical Museum. The mansion?s main floor hosts a variety of rooms that showcase a certain time period from the 1900?s till the 1930?s. On the second floor, visitors may enjoy a wide range of hands-on activities, many of which are great for kids, and explore the master?s bedroom, which is beautifully restored and houses various other exhibits. Outside the mansion, visitors may enjoy taking a pleasant stroll and partaking in cool refreshments during the summer. More information about the mansion?s history as well as Latah County may be found in the Museum store, which boasts of the best textbooks on not only local history but also on the Lewis & Clark expedition. Souvenirs may also be purchased at the store.
