Built in 1915, the Eighth Regiment Armory is a popular Chicago Landmark and a part of the National Register of Historic Places. It is also recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

A three story building designed by James Dibelka, an established Illinois architect, it is fully equipped to house military forces. It has meeting rooms, reception parlors, a drill hall, and dining facilities. The façade is also notable as it gives off an effect of strength.

The Eight Regiment Armory building has a lot of firsts under its belt, making it a real historical piece of architecture. For one, it has been built for the “Fighting Eighth”, which is a regiment commanded completely by African American soldiers. Later on, it also became the first public military prep high school, known as the Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville (which is what it serves for until today).
