The Hippie Memorial is a 62-foot long folk art created by Arcola?s town hippie, Bob Moomaw. He was known locally being the rebel who spent some of his time painting slogans on buildings, telling people to think for themselves and other incendiaries.

The whole artwork is actually a retelling of the artist?s life, each foot representing the years of his life. The middle part, which measures 20 feet, is the most colorful and biggest of the whole structure, as it stands for the Kennedy years and the time when hippies came around.

The Hippie Memorial was dedicated in 1999, a year after Moomaw?s death. His wife did the explanation on her speech (which was also reprinted right beside the artwork).
