Makanda, Illinois is best known for its charming quaintness and peacefulness. This small town is also popular for being creative and a hippie haven, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to find excellent artists around.

One great example is Dave Dardis, the owner and creator of the Rainmaker Secret Garden. Hidden behind his shop, it is actually a wonderland filled with his works (mostly made of copper). It consists of mazes, sculptures, statues, bridges, and even a small creek. It is also known to be a multi-level garden, and Dardis’ self proclaimed life’s work and own version of the Garden of Eden.

The Rainmaker Secret Garden can be booked for parties, weddings, and other celebrations. It could also be visited for free, although, donations are also welcome.
