Rockome Gardens was started in the 1930s by the couple Arthur and Elizabeth Martin. They dreamt of being the owners of the biggest flower garden in the county, so they bought a 208 acre lot in Arcola. The rock works were actually done by Mr. Martin?s employees, as a way to battle with the depression and keep his people employed. However, it was not until the Rockome Gardens were sold to the Yoder family in the late 1950s did it start to become open to the public.

Today, most of the original works in the Rockome Gardens can still be found on site, but due to changing ownership in the recent years, a lot of changes could be noticed by folks who have already visited the park before.

Activities available on site include archery ranges, horseback riding, kayaking, and nature trails.
