The Indiana State Museum is a world-class institution that features hands-on experience that provides visitors an overview of the best things Indiana has to offer. It was built using materials from Indiana such as limestone, sandstone, brick, steel, and glass. The Museum’s building is work of art in itself. Outside, visitors will be able to discover icons represent each of the 92 counties in Indiana. Inside, the museum promotes the exploration of Indiana’s past, present, and future through exhibits that depict its scientific, cultural, historical, and art heritage. It houses both permanent and changing exhibits as well as the Legacy Theater.

The Museum’s Core Galleries occupies 3 floors of space in order to tell the story of Indiana and to showcase its fascinating changing exhibits. Its collection features prehistoric fossils, current popular culture items and many more. Mostly, the pieces have a significant connection to the history of Indiana. Some are fine examples of artifacts from a certain period in history. The collection has been growing for 150 years and it continues to acquire additional pieces.
