Mounds State Park is one of the premier pre-historic site in the state. The park has preserved several mounds and earthworks by Adena and Hopewell cultures created approximately two centuries before Christ. Two centuries ago, this location are used by the natives as a ceremonial ground for different things.

There are a total of ten mounds in Mounds State Park and the Great Mound is by far, the biggest. Its about a quarter mile in circumference. The other nine mounds are also located inside the park and many of them according to various and recent works are aligned with various unearthly phenomena. There are many markers around the park where the mounds are located. Mounds State Park is a cultural ground and many kids and tourists visit this park to learn more about Indiana's culture and history. The markers have descriptions of the different mounds around the park.

There is a campground around the park and people go hiking in season. Hiking is very popular in the area as well. There are six hiking trails all in all. The park also has a river called White River in which Canoeing is possible. Mounds State Park is about 288 acres and one of the smaller parks in the state but many tourists like to visit because of the rich cultural history that the park has.
