In 1957, the Le Claire?s Women?s Club, now known as defunct, established the Buffalo Bill Museum. It was then located on Cody Road in Le Claire, Iowa. It featured river pilot artifacts, local Indian history, some Buffalo Bills memorabilia, and some household items commonly found in homes in the region during the early 1800?s.

A small building for the museum would later be constructed on the Le Claire Levee in 1971, and in 2001 and 2008, two buildings would be added to it, a 2025 square foot building and the River Pilots Annex respectively. The latter was particularly built as a house for the Lone Star Stern Wheeler. For those who do not know, the Lone Star is a wooden-hulled vessel that was added to the Buffalo Bill Museum in 1968.

Run by volunteers, the Buffalo Bill Museum is still in operation today, and is often visited by almost 10,000 visitors from across the globe yearly.
