The Danish Immigrant Museum was founded for the purpose of the preservation of the history of Danish immigration to America. Its first phase building was completed in 1994 to house significant artifacts that are significant to the interpretation of the Danish immigration story.
The Museum currently features an artifact collection that includes more than 35,000 artifacts related to a variety of Danish immigrant aspects. Among these pieces are family heirlooms that were brought from Denmark, remarkable examples of needlework, tools of early immigrant tradesmen and memorabilia from Danish-American clubs and organizations. Visitors to the Museum will be able to view the displays that contain numerous items that have been passed on by different generations of Danish families.
The Danish Immigrant Museum is supported by different and cooperating organizations across the United States. These are The Danish Immigrant Museum, The Danish American Archive and Library at Dana College, The Danish Immigrant Archives, and The Danish American Heritage Society.
The Museum also houses its own Gift Shop where visitors can purchase a variety of items such as apparel, books, CD’s and DVD’s, home décor, jewelry, and many more.
