The Henry Adams Building may not be designed as a bank, but it was said to be one of the ?Jewel Boxes? of Sullivan, its designer. ?Jewel Boxes? refers to the series of banks that were built and designed between 1909 and 1919 in the Midwest.

Sullivan maximized the use of windows in the building which allowed it to get a big amount of natural light inside. The small and rectangular structure also has a defined structure that puts it in the same league as the typical works of Sullivan. A similar building had been made before on the Exchange State Bank by Sullivan?s former associates. There is high probability that Sullivan was influenced by the work on the larger building.

In 1998, the building was included in the National Register of Historic Places using the name ?Land and Loan Office Building.?
