The Madison County Museum is a complex that is made up of a stone barn, an ancient 1856 mansion, the Zion church, a Winterset Depot, log school, the post office and even a field store. It puts on display various native art from the western hemisphere part of the world along with other archaeological artifacts. Its entire village was reconstructed so that people can still view it as a pleasant attraction.
The museum falls under being an open air museum that makes it one of its kind. It has also proudly established a scholarship called the Irvin & Lucille Martens Memorial Scholarship. It awards $750 to any graduating high school student or someone who has already enrolled for their first year in college.
