The Old Jail Museum is Dubuque, Iowa?s historical museum housed in the National Historic Landmark building of the Dubuque County Jail which was constructed in 1858 after the design of John Francis Rague and David Armstrong. It utilized the Egyptian Revival style, making the building stand out from its surroundings easily. It also held the infamous Butch Cassidy in custody for four hours, after being arrested for accusations of robbing a bank in Illinois, although, he was released right away for the lack of evidence and witnesses against him.
The Old Jail Museum is currently run by the Dubuque Historical Society. It features the organization?s collection of local history artifacts. It also has a sound and light show depicting the story of the local murder and execution of Patrick O?Connor, which happened just nearby.
