Reiman Gardens, is one of Iowa’s largest public gardens today. Situated on a 14-acre site, it serves as a welcoming sight in the entrance to Iowa State University as well as to the city of Ames. The entire facility boasts of distinct gardens, an indoor conservatory, an indoor butterfly wing, butterfly emergence cases, and five supporting greenhouses.
The Reiman Garden aims to provide an example that gardeners could refer to when it comes to having beautiful and practical gardens with a lessened chemical use and labor, and more native and hardy plants. Reiman Gardens has many award-winning and recognizable features, including its newly planted rose gardens that boast of sustainable designs, plants, and gardening practices.*
Reiman Gardens, owned by Iowa State University, also provides educational opportunities through its year-round education program and special events.* The Gardens, visited by approximately 100,000 visitors annually, is manned by full-time and part-staff, employs 40 students each year, and counts on 10,000 volunteer hours from patrons and members.
The Reiman Gardens allows visitors to bring food and drinks for a more enjoyable garden experience. It also has its own gift shop that offers special items and souvenirs.
