The 50?s and the 60?s were considered as the golden age of rock and roll music, as this was the period when many of the genre?s greatest icons emerged. However, aside from giving birth to rock legends, the time also saw the rise of places that would serve as havens for the music.

One of such places is the Surf Ballroom (or simply the Surf) in Clear Lake Iowa. Built in 1933 and moved to its present location in 1948, the Surf served as a venue for such early acts Lover Boy, The Beach Boys, and the Temptations. Sadly, the concert hall was also the last to host rock legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and JP Richardson, who all died in a plane crash the next day.
