The Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City, Iowa is known as one of the finest Prairie School Buildings in the United States. This is the main site for most legal proceedings in the county. Sioux City was made the county capital in 1858, but in was not after 20 years that courthouse was finished. The old courthouse cost $75,000 in construction.

In 1914, it was decided that the courthouse was too small and that bigger space was required for the county use. So with a new budget of about $850,000 the old courthouse was sold and a new one was constructed. Because of its many contributions to history, it was listed as part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. In June 19, 1996 the Woodbury County Courthouse was declared a National Historic Landmark.
