Allen Fieldhouse is considered by people as one of the best venues in America for basketball games. Located within the main campus, the arena?s original construction cost was $2.5 million, with 650,000 bricks used to construct it.

The Fieldhouse was named in honor of the late Dr. F.C. Allen, the Jayhawks' head coach for 39 years. It was dedicated on March 1, 1955 in a basketball game with an overwhelming audience of 17,228. From this1964-65 season, over five million people have watched Kansas games at Allen Fieldhouse. It has a seating capacity of 16,300, making it the largest basketball arena in Kansas as well as the second largest in the Big 12 Conference. Addition of more seats increased its capacity to 16,300, with 4,000 of them reserved for students.

The venue has also hosted many NCAA championships, including 37 NCAA Tournament games for men?s basketball. Originally, Allen Fieldhouse was a multi-purpose facility. Today, aside from sports events, the facility is also used for stage shows, major addresses and for commencement ceremonies during bad weather conditions.
