To learn more about the history of the state of Kansas, you can check the state?s official history museum, the Kansas Museum of History. It is located at capital city of Topeka in Shawnee County, Kansas.

The museum was founded in 1875 by the Kansas Historical Society. It was first housed inside the State Capitol. The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, promoting and educating the public about the state?s historical and cultural history from the prehistoric to the modern times. The museum measures 30,000 square feet. There are galleries devoted to Native American history, the founding and settling of Kansas, history of Kansas politics, African-American history in the state, and the Civil War.

The museum?s notable collections include a full-sized teepee done the Southern Cheyenne style, a 1950s diner, the Westward Movement, the Bleeding Kansas incident, and Carrie A. Nation?s hammer.
