The Kansas State Fair was originally organized by a group of young businessmen back in the days when the town of Hutchinson was only starting to develop. It wasn’t called the Kansas State Fair yet and simply started as a town fair held in a small wooden stable. It was on the 23rd*day of September, year 1873, when the first fair was hosted.

Everything went well during the initial opening, and so the town made plans for a bigger fair to be held the following year. However, due to the plague brought about by grasshoppers in the town, the 1874 fair was cancelled.

In 1875, the First Annual Reno Country Fair was held as a proof with the help of the Agricultural Society. From this local fair, came what is known today as the Kansas States Fair, which offers a wide variety of commercial opportunity, including entertainment events such as livestock and trade shows.

The Kansas State Fair is a 10-day event that happens every year starting on the first Friday after Labor Day at the Kansas State Fairgrounds located in Hutchinson.
