At the Lake Afton Public Observatory, visitors may try searching for the planet Saturn and its ever-famous rings using the observatory?s sixteen-inch telescope. The telescope is also powerful enough to offer visitors an enchanting glimpse of the moon, with its numerous craters, and even galaxies beyond the Milky Way.

The observatory also offers a museum area, wherein displays and exhibits further educate the public about the fascinating world of astronomy.

Whereas many observatories in the country tend to restrict the public?s access to its facilities, the Lake Afton Public Observatory is the opposite. The observatory may be visited every Friday and Saturday all year long and also offers an exciting array of classes and programs during Wednesday mornings as well as Tuesday & Thursday nights. Throughout the year, the observatory also holds special programs and events to celebrate holidays and occasions like Father?s Day and Christmas. Large tour and school groups are always more than welcome and, with advance notice to the observatory?s staff, there may even be especially prepared astronomy-oriented games & activities ready for the day of their visit.
