The Lee Richardson Zoo occupies half of the 110-acre Finnup Park. The Zoo promotes the appreciation and stewardship for the national treasures in the Earth through the exhibition, conservation, and interpretation of wildlife. These exhibits feature animals that provide an example of the kind of wildlife that can be found throughout the world. With more than 300 animals that represent 110 species, the displays include snow leopards to flamingos.

The Zoo was established in 1927 by the local chapter of the Izaak Walton League in conjunction with the City of GC. Its first animals were 2 skunks that were brought in by Lee Richardson. The intention was to house and take care of the species that are typically found within the local area. However, 2 members who were not contented dealt with the purchase of a lioness from a passing circus. It was the first major addition to the zoo.

Today, the Zoo continues to acquire more animals with its newest addition, a giraffe. It also hosts special events like the Kansas Sampler Festival.
