The Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty, signed in 1867, is a historic event, marking the peace between the United States and the Native American Tribes from the southern Plains. This contract was signed by three different Indian tribes, signaling their agreement to relocate to designated reservations in the Indian Territory. The treaty had tons of problems, though, so a lot of complaints and even law suits followed.

In commemoration of this historic event, though, the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Site was created. This site was established to protect the location where the tribe leaders and the US Government officials gathered in 1867 to settle the agreement. The site was declared as National Historic Landmark in 1969, on the same day that it was accepted on the National Register of Historic Places.
