Opened in 1922, the Orpheum Theatre of Wichita, Kansas is one of the theatre mogul Carl Hobitzelle?s creations. It is the very first atmospheric theatre in the US, although if it really qualifies as one is still a matter of debate for some.

Originally built to seat up to 1700 people, the site is treasured both for its architecture and its important part of in the Orpheum Circuit during its heyday. Sadly, it went through tough times, so the building was then used for other, probably more profitable, purposes. In 1974, it served as an adult film theatre, and then got foreclosed around a decade later.

Opened again in 1992, the Orpheum Theatre of Wichita was restored massively by the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre, Ltd. It now serves as a public venue for various events.
