The Spencer Museum of Art is a museum that is open to the public for free. It sits on the University of Kansas. It is named after Helen Foresman Spencer, the wife of Kenneth A. Spencer, the owner of Pittsburgh and Midway Coal Co. in Pittsburgh, Kansas. The Jayhawk Ordnance in Galena, Kansas was also built by Spencer. He aimed to create the chemical ammonium nitrate it was constructed during World War II.

The museum of arts houses the Kress Foundation Department of Art History, plus the Murphy Library of Architecture. This museum is a non- profit organization and donations by private individuals, companies and other institutions are readily accepted by the museum?s administration. This museum is the site of many Art History Classes in the said university. The museum contains a vast collection of artifacts that has cultural significance. The Spencer has artworks that depict the life of chemical companies in the past.

The Spencer Museum provides a vehicle for humanities students, making them understand more the art appreciation subject. The museum is closed during Mondays. Get your gear and see the museum!
